Winnipeg +9½ over SASKATCHEWAN SportsInteraction
Wasn’t this supposed to be the year of total parity? Well, halfway through the season it’s been anything but that and this week we’re seeing 9½-point spreads or more in three of the four games. That’s an overcompensation taking place and we’ll look to capitalize. The Blue Bombers are an ugly 2-6 with both its two wins coming against the TiCats and Eskies. They’ve lost four in a row and are coming off a blowout loss to the Als in Montreal. Having said that, the Bombers are not as bad as its record suggests. QB Steven Jyles is doing a very good job in place of Buck Pierce. He’s thrown seven TD’s against just two picks and has a completion % of 62.2. The Bombers have big play guys that can be game-breakers and the bottom line is that this is a dangerous offense. Winnipeg trailed Montreal 24-0 very early and that poor start took the steam right out of them again. Those awful starts have been the team’s Achilles Heel all year and if they can keep it close early they have a very legit shot of pulling off the upset. The Riders are overrated and overpriced. Darian Durant keeps throwing balls up for grabs and the result has been 12 interceptions against 11 TD passes. Saskatchewan is 2-3 over its last five games with only wins over that stretch being against Hamilton and British Columbia. They even lost to the Eskies last week and while the Riders home field is a big advantage, the team is not playing good at all. Seldom will you see a team get smoked in back-to-back games in this league and that’s what’s facing the Blue Bombers this week. Expect them to show up big time. Play: Winnipeg +9½ (Risking 2.1 units to win 2).

B.C. Lions +10½ over MONTREAL Pinnacle
Anthony Cavillo's out while Chris Leak is in to make his first CFL start. Leak came in for Cavillo in the second half of the Als 39-17 win over the Bombers two weeks ago (Als had a bye last week). However, despite going 10-15 for 99 yards, Leak came in with a cushy 24-7 lead and the landscape will certainly be different here. A rookie QB making his first CFL start and laying 10½-points is a big risk even against the 1-7 Lions. The Als strong suit is its offense and that offense takes a serious hit with Cavillo on the sidelines. We’ve all seen Montreal’s defense give up chunks of yards and while they know they have to step it up this week, they’re also very likely to be on the field much longer than they’re accustomed to due to an offense that won’t be nearly as effective. Remember, the Lions racked up 35 points last week against Calgary and were in a position to win that game. If nothing else that outburst had to instill some confidence in an offense that needed it badly. These two met earlier in the year with Montreal squeaking out a 16-12 victory and aside from being on the road, this situation for the Lions is a bit more favorable with Cavillo on the rack. When a dog is backed into a corner, it bites. Play: B.C. Lions +10½ (Risking 2.1 units to win 2).
